Morris
Material Handling the UKs leading crane and hoist manufacturer
based in Loughborough, recently designed, manufactured and installed
an overhead travelling crane for top visitor attraction, Crich Tramway
Village, home of the National Tramway Museum, located in Crich, Matlock,
Derbyshire.
Morris designed
a 7.5 tonne double girder electric overhead travelling crane with
a 5 metre height of lift to elevate and move parts of vintage trams
for restoration and maintenance purposes. It was installed in the
new maintenance workshop of the museum recently built as a result
of a lottery grant given to the museum. A viewing gallery over the
workshop is due to open to the public at Easter 2002. Peter Bird,
Mechanical Engineer at the museum said, the accurate lifting
controls of the remotely controlled crane will make maintenance
work safer, easier and quicker.
The crane order
was placed by G. F Tomlinson Building Limited. Peter Reeves, Quantity
Surveyor at Tomlinson Building said the crane order was
won as a result of being named by the client as a preferred subcontractor
and also due to the quotation offering value for money.
