Morris
Material Handling Limited was recently selected to supply a new overhead
travelling crane and supporting gantry to Airbus. The crane was recently
installed in a newly refurbished building which will be used to research
and test the latest developments in aircraft wing manufacture at the
company's site in Filton, near Bristol.
The double girder
crane spans 25 metres and has a lifting capacity of 7 tonnes with
an M5 duty rating. Its design incorporates Morris' 400 series wire
rope hoist with a dual lifting speed of 0.6 and 5 metres per minute
for fine positional work.

remote controls are used to operate the crane for increased safety
and productivity during hoisting operations. Additional safety features
include a zoning limit system and an overload alarm to prevent the
crane from lifting damaging overloads.
Morris was selected
due to the company' s excellent reputation for providing safe, reliable
and productive cranes to meet the most demanding operating conditions.
Mike Maddock
Morris' Managing director said "Airbus is one of many leading
companies from a variety of industries, including other aircraft
manufacturers that we have supplied cranes to as a result of our
reputation within the industry"
Morris customers
are also supported by their unrivalled network of 17 service centres
throughout the UK. The new Airbus crane will be serviced by Morris
Bristol service centre.
